If the housing bubble bursts...
There has been a lot of mummors lately about the runup in US housing prices leading to an impending bursting of the bubble. Personally, I think it's a lot of doomsday predictions from people who are overly comparing the real estate market to the stock market, an apples to oranges comparison in my opinion. Nevertheless, today I ran across an interesting article about strategies to protect yourself if and when we ever do see a housing market recession.

US Median Home Prices
The median US home prices is always a figure that intrigues me. Living in Northern California, I am accustomed to climbing home prices each year. But, what about the rest of the country? Hanley Wood publishes some of the best reports I have seen on the web. Here's an example: "The median sales price of existing single-family homes in the nation is up 14.5% in the twelve months ending June 2005 to $218,600. After reaching a revised record of $203,800 in May, June’s preliminary number represents a new all-time high for the national median, and is well above the nation’s sixteen-year average of $126,598."Link to article...

What's the story with tax liens?
Interesting article from the Wall Street Journal discussing the final frontier of investing: tax liens. "This year, local governments in 31 states and the District of Columbia will auction off $5 billion to $7 billion of unpaid property tax bills to raise cash, estimates the National Tax Lien Association, which represents lien investors. That is up from $3 billion to $5 billion five years ago." Link to source...
