Aaron, In Texas the opening bid starts at the amount of back taxes and fees owed. If there is competition the bidding 'war' so to speak, will raise the cost of the opening bid. So lets take an example of a property which has $5,340 dollars in back taxes and fees owed. In such a case the bidding will start at $5,340. Interest rates or penalty returns are set by statute in Texas thus are not part of the bidding scheme. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Darius M.
